Kid-do Time: My Journey into Parenthood, Play, and Purpose
Parenthood is a chapter that changes everything. It's a whirlwind of sleepless nights, tiny snuggles, and the awe-inspiring experience of watching a little human discover the world. For me, it was also the spark that ignited a new passion and a journey I never expected. I'm Jerica, and like many of you, I'm a mom navigating the beautiful chaos of raising a child. But I'm also a biomedical engineer, a former Commissioner for Cobb County, a technology leader at Equifax, and now, the founder of Kid-do Time.
The Inspiration Behind Kid-do Time:
When my daughter, Arale, arrived, my world shifted in the most wonderful way. My partner, Daniel, and I were eager to continue our tradition of "family fun night." We love to compete, whether it's in sports, board games like Scrabble and Monopoly, or card games. However, we quickly realized there was a gap in the market. Finding age-appropriate games that the whole family could actively participate in and enjoy some friendly competition felt like searching for a unicorn. Most toys on the market are designed for the baby to play alone with supervision. While those moments are cute for a picture or two, the bonding isn't as deep or impactful as full-on family interactions.
That's when the idea for Kid-do Time began to take shape. My fascination with the science of human development started even before Arale was born (I was particularly captivated by the week-to-week embryology milestones during my pregnancy!). That fascination continued after her arrival, translating into my excitement of tracking her development as my tiny human. She's full of surprises, and it's fun helping her push each boundary. While my initial passion stemmed from the science of development in the womb, Kid-do Time focuses on supporting and celebrating the amazing developmental leaps that happen after birth. I poured over research on physical, social, and cognitive development in infants and translated that knowledge into playful activities. Kid-do Time is the result – a labor of love designed to foster bonding, learning, and joy in those precious early months.
Parenthood: A New Chapter, Not an Ending
I know firsthand that the transition to parenthood can feel overwhelming. There's a societal expectation that you have to put your own ambitions on hold, that your identity shifts entirely to "mom" or "dad." But I'm here to tell you that it doesn't have to be an ending. It's a new chapter, a chance to discover your strength, resilience, and creativity in ways you never imagined.
Juggling my career in technology at Equifax, my past role as a Commissioner for Cobb County, and now a small business, alongside raising Arale, has been a balancing act. There are days when I feel like I'm spinning a million plates. But it's also incredibly fulfilling. Parenthood has given me a renewed sense of purpose, a drive to create something meaningful, and a deeper appreciation for the power of connection.
Kid-do Time: More Than Just a Game
Kid-do Time is a testament to that belief. It's a reminder that you can be a loving parent and pursue your passions. It's a tool to help you carve out those precious moments of connection, to engage in meaningful play, and to celebrate every little victory along the way – not just for the baby, but for the whole family.
I invite you to join the Kid-do Time family. Let's embrace this journey together, supporting our children's growth while also nurturing our own.
